Once again, with our new normal, our service was another fabulous occasion on Sunday with once more our wonderful soprano soloist singing from behind a screen the 19th Century hymn – ‘Praise to the Holiest in the Height’ and this was followed by an exposition on Psalm 78 ‘Hear my law oh ye people’ by our Lay Reader Fraser Gold, with the reading of the psalm accompanied by quiet contemplative organ music. We followed the ‘service of the word’ from our traditional copies and ended the service with the well known Wesleyan hymn ‘And can it be ‘ to the famous tune Sagina with a final virtuoso performance of ‘Dir, dir Jehova’ by Karg Elert played by a guest organist which contrived to vibrate the floorboards of our 140 year old church and kept the congregation bouncing in their seats!!
Next Sunday 23rd August at 10.00 will be a devotional service led by Gail Ullrich – and having a hymn set to Scarlet Ribbons! Do come along ! – there will be a hymn which neither the soloist not the organist actually know. See if you know it! We can seat a reasonable number seat comfortably and well spaced out with masks now being worn as dictated by Nicola – these are available at the door at which you will also be asked to sanitise your hands. Do not be afraid to come !! You will be welcomed and looked after! Our weekly Thursday services will begin next month on the return of our Rector from holiday. However our weekly prayer group on Tuesday mornings at 10.00am continues usually in our garden room, which is accessed through our garden funnily enough!
