Christian Aid Week 10th to 16th May 2021
Christian Aid Week in Milngavie this year will again take place in a different format, because of continuing efforts to contain the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus. It would have been very difficult to hold the usual house-to-house collection but different ways have been set up to allow you to contribute to the essential work carried out by Christian Aid to support people living in the poorest areas of the world.
Christian Aid Week this year is focussing on the climate crisis and how it affects millions of people in Kenya, who struggle to get enough food and water. In Scotland, we can hardly imagine what it is like to live in a country with a scarcity of water but this is a life-or-death reality for people living in many parts of the world. The story of Rose in Kenya is typical. She is caught in a cycle of climate chaos. Extreme weather, from severe drought on one hand to flooding on the other, robs her of what she needs to survive – a reliable source of water. Rose, a grandmother in her late sixties, has to walk for six hours every day to fetch water for her grandchildren. Your gift could help to build and maintain an earth dam so that when the rains do come, people will be able to store and access the water they need to live. It would free people, usually women like Rose, from having to make these long, painful daily journeys to fetch water, it would allow them to grow fresh vegetables to eat and would help them to protect themselves from the dangers of coronavirus and other illnesses.
There are several ways by which you can donate to support the work of Christian Aid.
