2nd June – Trinity 1: Sabbath Rest

4th June 2024

On Sunday Fraser and Robin led the service with organ music provided by John to lead us in our singing.
Saturday’s Flowers and Music Festival was a lovely event with beautiful, creative arrangements  from Milngavie churches and music throughout the day provided by pupils of the Haydock Music School. We were delighted to raise nearly £300 for Water Aid. More photos will follow in a later post.

Next Sunday’s readings – Genesis 3.8-15,  2 Corinthians 4.13-5.1,  Mark 3.20-end

Today’s readings – Deuteronomy 5.12-15,  2 Corinthians 4.5-12,  Mark 2.23-3.6

In the the sermon Robin focused on God’s gift of the sabbath and its role in creating a healthy lifestyle rather than slavish adherence to rules created by controlling groups such as the Pharisees. Jesus challenged them by healing the man with a withered hand on the Sabbath Day and asserting that “the sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath.”
