Robin focused on two themes linked with today’s readings, that God is a God of surprises and that our God is a generous God offering life in its fullness.
After the poor widow fed Elijah a small cake, ‘The jar of meal was not emptied, neither did the jug of oil fail, according to the word of the Lord that he spoke by Elijah.’ (I Kings 17.16)
In the Corinthians reading Paul shows how God sees things differently and in a surprising way challenges our human views and values: ‘For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God’s weakness is stronger than human strength.’ ( 1 Cor. 1.25) ‘
In the gospel reading we hear the story of the first miracle at the wedding at Cana when Jesus turned the water into wine, enabling the wine to flow generously & abundantly at this wedding feast. Later Jesus would give his life for us, the most precious gift of all.
