We received the sad news from Clare during the week that Clare’s father, Gordon Rutherford, our much loved long-serving Treasurer and Organist, had passed away peacefully in Buchanan Lodge Care Home. On Sunday Penny Haydock accompanied our service on the piano and in memory of Gordon, she included some of his favourite music before and after the service and during communion. To Spring by Grieg, To a Wild Rose by McDowell, Postlude by Pachulski & Eb Nocturne by Chopin. We remembered how Gordon loved to finish the service on the piano, often extemporising and ‘giving it laldy,’ as Penny described!
Gordon’s funeral will be in the church on Wednesday 19th July at 2pm, live streamed into the hall, then at Dalnottar Crematorium for 3.30pm followed by refreshments back at the church hall. We hold Pamela and the Rutherford family in our prayers.
This Week’s Readings: Jeremiah 28:5-9, Romans 6:12-end, Matthew 10:40-end
Robin and Fraser led the service and the sermon illuminated three quite challenging readings from Romans, Jeremiah and Matthew. The message of the gospel transforms shame as well as guilt, God’s plans can lead us to benefit from those we find hostile and those to whom we show hospitality can be a blessing in return.
