Lent 4 – Mothering Sunday

Readings:       Exodus 2: 1 – 10        Colossians3: 12 – 17 Luke 2: 33 – 35

On Sunday, our service was taken by the Revd Sally Gorton, a retired priest well known to the congregation. The theme of the service was Mothering Sunday and bouquets of flowers were given to everyone. Sally explained that the bible shows that God, who is neither male or female, displays both motherly and fatherly qualities in his care for us. She pointed out that we often receive motherly care from all kinds of people amongst family and friends.
After the service we were treated to a delicious Simnel Cake made by Veronica, which we enjoyed along with tea, coffee and chat.

Last week, the bishop appointed Robin Paisley as our interim priest during our vacancy. Robin is a member of St Andrew’s who retired a few years ago. The next stage in the process of finding a new priest is a congregational questionnaire to find out the views of church members.
