Readings – Isaiah 55.1-5, Romans 9.1-5, Matthew 14.13-21
On Sunday, Rev Kevin Francis led our service and spoke on the familiar reading of the feeding of the 5,000 with five loaves and two fish. Kevin explained that this was the only story which is in all four Gospels and that it followed the news of the execution of John the Baptist, which must have caused great sadness and alarm. When Jesus saw the large crowd, which had come to see him in the wilderness, he had deep compassion at the thought that they had nothing to eat. The solution was to use the resources which they already had, which even resulted in 12 baskets of leftovers; a sign of God’s abundant provision.

Holy Father,
who gathered us here around the table of your Son
to share this meal with the whole household of God:
in that new world where you reveal the fullness of your peace,
gather people of every race and language
to share in the eternal banquet of Jesus Christ our Lord.
