26th November – Anticipating Advent

29th November 2020

The liturgical year ended on Sunday with the celebration of the Feast of Christ the King, an occasion on which to give thanks for Jesus the servant king and anticipate a time when all people are gathered together under his loving rule.
The season of Advent begins now, with aspects of penitence but also joy as we look forward to celebrating the coming of Jesus. Throughout Advent, we’ll use material prepared by the Royal School of Church Music, entitled Advent Pilgrimage, as well as some music for Communion settings we’ve never tried before. In a full service on the 29th, we’ll also acknowledge our church’s patron, Saint Andrew the Apostle, this year without the traditional post-festival fish supper in the hall, but with thoughts of the friends who normally join us.

Andrea has ordered copies of “Advent for Everyone through the Apostles” by Tom Wright, with daily readings and reflections. She’d be pleased to drop off a copy to anyone who is not able to come to church.

We’re excited to share news of a special bumper Christmas edition of the church magazine! Steve will gladly accept submissions of articles, stories and photos, to produce the usual superior publication, also with collection and delivery options.
