23rd April – Dancing Piano!

23rd April 2021

We had the pleasure of hearing again on Sunday the sound of the Bösendorfer piano, played by our organist with a nimble change of instrument for the accompaniment of the sending out song, the wonderful ‘Lord of the Dance’, sung sensitively by Laura. Its composer, Sydney Carter, adapted it from the Shaker tune ‘Simple Gifts’, and said that Christ “dances that shape and pattern which is at the heart of our reality”.

In this Sunday’s reading from Luke’s Gospel, we heard the story of Christ’s resurrection appearance to his apostles, following the Emmaus road encounter. Andrea called our attention to how Jesus clearly understood their fear and confusion, assuring them of the coming of the Holy Spirit, which travels with us always, and has the power to calm our fears and help us place our troubles at the foot of the cross.

For the weekly duties of scripture reading, intercessions and deputy warden, we have a rota up and running again. No post-service coffee-making yet, but we look forward to the resumption of this hospitality when the time is right. Our virtual Vestry meetings continue, and the current team had their latest one on Monday night. Recent news sent to Vestry secretaries from the Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway included the fact that it has a new look website designed by our Digital Missioner, Petko Marinov. The web address remains the same – glasgow.anglican.org – but one of its new features is the inclusion of links to magazines from across the diocese, including our very own!
