18th September – Cake Walk

22nd September 2021

Twenty one of us gathered at the church at midday on Saturday ready to set off on a walk led by Tim and Jane. It was lovely to be joined by friends from other churches as well as Veronica’s visiting friends from Hong Kong! Three doggy friends Ted, Trixie and Gem accompanied us too!

After an overcast start, the sun came out and we enjoyed strolling and chatting along the way. The route led us on the Dougalston Wood Trail where we stopped for our picnic lunch where there were long moss covered logs, enough to seat everyone. Tim even provided newspapers for us to sit on to keep us dry!

It was a new walk for many of us and included views across the golf course and the surrounding countryside, past Dougalston Loch full of bullrushes and a heron who took flight on seeing us all, and ending up in Lennox Park and the Labyrinth. It’s great to see it taking shape so well now, fortunately this year having escaped any over-enthusiastic grass cutting!

Back at the church there was a delicious spread of different cakes. The fine weather meant we were able to enjoy the tea and cakes in the church garden. It was a wonderful relaxed occasion and gave us all a real lift to be together, enjoying fellowship, food and exercise as well as raising some money for church funds.

Thanks to Jane and Tim for organising this event. We look forward to the next one, perhaps a Bluebell Cake walk in the Spring.
