Today’s Readings – Amos 5:18-24,  1 Thessalonians 4:13-end,  Matthew 25:1-13

Robin spoke briefly about the three scripture readings, bringing out themes of justice in the Amos passage, encouragement in the handling of grief in Thessalonians and the teaching of Jesus for us to be ready and not procrastinate in the parable of the ten bridesmaids. He then focused on remembrance and asked the question how those who experience military action that causes death and destruction, live with the memory, often by blocking it out. Loyalty to comrades was a key inspiration and one of the reasons why we remember.
At the end of the service, Hugh playing Elgar’s Nimrod which provided a reflective and moving conclusion.

God of Peace,
whose Son Jesus Christ proclaimed the kingdom and restored the broken to wholeness of life:
look with compassion on the anguish of the world,
and by your healing power
make whole both people and nations;
through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen
