19th November – Sharing our Talents

21st November 2023

Last Sunday, we welcomed retired priest, Kevin Francis, who is known by many of the congregation, to take our service. We enjoyed Alison’s accompaniment on the piano, helping us to sing with good voice!

Next Week’s Readings – Christ The King – Ezekiel 34:11-16,20-24, Ephesians 1:15-end, Matthew 25:31-end

Today’s Readings – Zephaniah 1:7,12-end,  1 Thessalonians 5:1-11,  Matthew 25:14-30

As well as speaking about the very challenging Zephaniah passage which focuses on the wrath of God and was a tough reading given the current situation in Gaza, Kevin also spoke about the parable of the talents. Here two servants were commended for using their talents to good effect whereas the one who buried it in the ground was condemned for being lazy and not using his talent. Kevin pointed out that using our talents involves dealing with other people which sometimes results in risk, and people who have had bad experiences might feel reluctant to try again. However, God wants us to share our talents with others and not to hide from the world.
