23rd August – Unity in Diversity

Readings: Isaiah 51:1-6,  Romans 12:1-8, Matthew 16:13-20
On Sunday, Robin’s sermon focused on Paul’s Letter to the Romans in which we are encouraged to be transformed by the Holy Spirit rather than being conformed to the spirit of the current age. “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what it the will of God.” (Romans 12:1-8)
Paul then describes how we belong to one body in Christ. Robin drew out the theme of unity in diversity with each of us having a different part to play according to the gifts given to us.
In the gospel passage Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answers “You are the Messiah, the Son of the Living God” (Matthew 16.16) Robin suggested that is a question that we might also ask ourselves.
