30th August – Following Jesus

30th August 2026

Readings:       Jeremiah 15:15-21               Romans 12: 9-end                Matthew 16: 21-end

At our service this morning Robin announced the forthcoming ordination of Stephen Parratt which takes place at St Andrew’s on 27th September at 7pm followed by refreshments in the hall. Bishop Nick will be coming to lead the service for this very special occasion.

In today’s sermon Robin reflected on each reading. Jeremiah is angry with God and Robin explained how it’s ok to be authentic in the expression of our feelings towards God, especially when times are difficult. God cares for us, as we are, and sometimes the act of doing this can in itself be transformative.

In the Gospel Jesus speaks of the suffering and the cross that he has to face. This is very difficult for the disciples to understand and accept, especially for Peter. Robin suggested that all the things listed in the Romans passage are a good guide to how we can follow Jesus.
